Sinh sống ở vùng gần bờ, trên nền đáy đá (Ref. 11230, 75154). Loài này có khả năng ngụy trang hoàn hảo với môi trường nền đá khi ở vùng nước nông. Là loài cá ăn thịt, thức ăn chủ yếu gồm các loài cá nhỏ hơn (Ref. 125338). Có tính lãnh thổ cao. Cá có xu hướng di cư ra vùng nước sâu hơn khi tuổi đời tăng dần (Ref. 125576).
