Phổ biến trong các thảm cỏ biển Zostera marina. Cá con có chiều dài chuẩn (SL) nhỏ hơn 2 cm ăn chủ yếu động vật chân chèo (Copepoda). Là loài ăn tạp, thức ăn chủ yếu bao gồm động vật chân đều bơi (gammarid amphipods), giun nhiều tơ (polychaetes) và cỏ biển Zostera marina.
