Phân bố ở các sông từ trung bình đến lớn (Ref. 12975). Sống trong các sinh cảnh nước ngọt có dòng chảy chậm hoặc nước tĩnh. Thức ăn bao gồm động vật phù du, thân mềm, động vật giáp xác và các loài không xương sống khác. Là loài cá cảnh phổ biến trong thương mại. Có khả năng thay đổi màu sắc tùy theo môi trường xung quanh.
