Cá trưởng thành sinh sống tại các đầm phá và môi trường sườn ngoài rạn san hô. Thức ăn chủ yếu là các loài giáp xác chân chèo (copepods) phù du và tảo. Loài đẻ trứng, có tập tính ghép đôi rõ rệt trong mùa sinh sản (Ref. 205). Trứng thuộc loại trứng đáy, bám chặt vào giá thể (Ref. 205). Cá đực có tập tính bảo vệ và quạt nước cho trứng (Ref. 205). Loài cộng sinh với các loài hải quỳ: Entacmaea quadricolor (phổ biến), Heteractis crispa (thỉnh thoảng) và Heteractis magnifica (hiếm gặp) (Ref. 5911). Loài đã được nuôi thành công trong môi trường nhân tạo (Ref. 35404, 35413, 35420).

Adults inhabit lagoon and outer reef environments. Feed predominantly on planktonic copepods and algae. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205). Thức ăn chủ yếu là các loài giáp xác chân chèo phù du và tảo; ngoài ra còn ăn thực vật, các loài động vật không xương sống ở tầng đáy và sinh vật phù du (Ref. 237). Loài hoạt động ban ngày (Ref. 54980; 113699).
