Phân bố ở các rìa phía trên của các bờ dốc đứng hướng ra biển và các gờ đá ngầm có dòng hải lưu chảy qua (Ref. 205, 48637). Thường xuất hiện ở những nơi có dòng chảy mạnh và hệ sinh vật không xương sống phong phú như san hô roi (seawhips). Thường được tìm thấy ở độ sâu trung bình trên 20 mét và sống theo các nhóm nhỏ, tản mác (Ref. 48637). Là loài cá tầng trung - đáy (Ref. 58302). Tập trung thành các đàn lỏng lẻo cách đáy vài mét để ăn động vật phù du, đặc biệt là chân chèo (copepods). Loài đẻ trứng (Ref. 205). Cũng bị khai thác bằng lưới vây (Ref. 9770).
