Phân bố ở các đầm phá nông và rạn san hô hướng biển ở độ sâu đến khoảng 15 m; phổ biến ở những khu vực giàu san hô. Đây là loài có tập tính ẩn náu kín đáo (Ref. 9710, 48637) giữa các hốc đá, bọt biển hoặc trong các khe hở ở phần đế của các cấu trúc san hô lớn. Cá trưởng thành thường sống theo cặp nhưng đôi khi chỉ quan sát thấy một cá thể trong khi con còn lại đang ẩn nấp (Ref. 48637).
