Mô tả loài: Số tia vây lưng (tổng số): 13 – 14; Tia vây ngực mềm: 16; Tia vây hậu môn mềm: 11 – 12; Tia vây đuôi mềm: 9. Cơ thể thon dài với đầu và thân rộng. Phần lưng không có gai nhỏ; vùng bụng phủ các gai nhỏ. Cơ thể có màu xanh lục hoặc xám sẫm ở mặt lưng và trắng bạc ở mặt bụng. Loài này được phân biệt với các loài khác trong chi <i>Lagocephalus</i> bởi đặc điểm lỗ mang có màu đen.
