Solitary species (Ref. 37816). Feeds on fishes and crustaceans. The dorsal fin has 2 grooves serving as seringes of venom; their stings are excruciatingly painful and can occasionally be fatal. A serum exists which is effective if applied immediately after the infliction. World's most venomous fish (Ref. 37816). Uncommon in markets. In Hong Kong live fish markets (Ref. 27253). Là loài cá mặt quỷ phân bố rộng rãi nhất (Ref. 4313). Thường sống ở các vùng đáy cát hoặc có nhiều vụn đá thuộc các bãi cạn rạn san hô và đầm phá nông, cũng như trong các vũng nước nhỏ khi thủy triều rút; có khả năng ngụy trang hoàn hảo giữa lớp nền đáy và đôi khi còn bị che phủ bởi tảo (Ref. 5213, 5503). Loài sống đơn độc (Ref. 37816). Thức ăn gồm cá và động vật giáp xác. Vây lưng có 2 rãnh hoạt động như ống tiêm nọc độc; vết chích của chúng gây đau đớn dữ dội và đôi khi có thể dẫn đến tử vong. Đã có huyết thanh mang lại hiệu quả cao nếu được tiêm ngay sau khi bị chích. Là loài cá có nọc độc mạnh nhất thế giới (Ref. 37816). Ít khi gặp trong các chợ thủy sản. Phân bố ở vùng ven bờ (Ref. 75154). Thức ăn chủ yếu là cá và động vật không xương sống cỡ lớn. Sống bám trên nền đáy san hô và đá, đặc biệt là trong các hang hốc và dưới các gờ đá. Là loài săn mồi rình mồi có độc tính rất cao (Refs. 127989, 129713).
